Film Review: Tamasha (2.5 Stars)

Star Cast: Ranbir Kapoor & Deepika Padukone

Director: Imtiaz Ali

Stars: 2.5

The lead pair of Tamasha, Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone rock in this story which shows both the factors of absence and presence of love in a different way. The highlight of the movie is its characters and the inner conflicts which they go through with.

The tagline of the film is ‘Why Always The Same Story’, but then too Imtiaz repeats himself in his approach and style of storytelling. Certain sequences of “Tamasha” will remind you of “Jab We Met” and “Rockstar” and which is disappointing as Imtiaz looks repetitive in his treatment to the film.

“Tamasha” is certainly a movie for the fans of Ranbir and Deepika! Since it is Imtiaz Ali style film so you cannot go with an expectation of watching a romance with something ‘Hatke’. Dealing with the concept of love in an enigmatic form, this film will not sound appealing to everyone. It is not the kind of film you want to enjoy with your near and dear ones.

The storytelling of Tamasha is complex. The movie starts with a young Ved (Ranbir Kapoor) who is addicted to listening stories sitting under a tree from an old man in the quiet evenings of Shimla. He has an imperious father, who wants him to focus on school and has carved out well thought off life for him, but Ved is enjoying his own fantasy world.

After some secenes, moves to the picturesque location of Corsica, France where Tara (Deepika Padukone) meets Ved. He notices she is in a problem, Ved offers to help her and in turn demands from her to maintain their meeting as a fictitious event and not let reality ruin it. Thus, they both meet as Don and Mona Darling and have a crazy trip together. As expected, love strikes at the wrong time and Tara fall in love with Ved. Before leaving Corsica and considering it their last meet, Tara kisses Ved goodbye.

After four years, Tara still is still mad after him and moves to Delhi for work. In a hope to find him someday, she waits for him at a cafe, as she expects him to see her since she learns about his frequent visits there in Corsica. And one day Ved arrives, the two meet each other for real and start dating. On spending quality time together, Tara realizes Ved is a different person altogether and she turns down his engagement proposal.

Will this be the end of Tara and Ved’s love story or is there something more to them is what lies ahead!
